Creating renewable energy for generations to come
The Baslow Hydro Project is a 50kWh scheme hydro scheme on the weir at Baslow Old Mill. It has the capacity to generate 200,000 kWh electricity (enough to power 60 homes) from the River Derwent.

The electricity will be generated by an Archimedes screw and turbine house located on the west side of the weir.
The project is currently going through a detailed feasibility phase involving Derwent Hydro consultants. During this phase we are also
doing the legal work required with landowners
undertaking appropriate surveys from the Environment Agency and other interested parties.
developing a sustainable business plan for both the capital and revenue phases of the project.
We aim to complete the feasibility study by Spring / Summer of 2026.
The following 12 months will be taken up with fundraising which we anticipate will be a blend of
grant funding
community investment through a shares Issue
loan finance.
We are hoping to start construction in the summer of 2027.
The Hydro Project is being developed and run by Baslow Environment Projects Limited, a Community Benefit Society registered with the FCA. We are inviting interest from anyone who would like to be a member and to be involved in the Hydro Project as active member and / or investing in our Share Offer.
